Medical malpractice continues to be a leading cause of death

The state of Mississippi is home to some of the best health care facilities in the country. Every day, thousands of patients place their lives in the hands of skilled and highly-trained physicians, surgeons and nurses. However, mistakes often happen any time humans are involved. When mistakes are made in health care, the patient suffers the consequences. Medical malpractice is unfortunately one of the leading causes of death and injury in the United States today.

A man in another state filed a lawsuit against a medical center after alleged negligent care led to the death of his wife. According to the lawsuit, the woman was taken to the emergency room with breathing difficulties. After being examined in the emergency room, the woman was transferred to the intensive care unit, the lawsuit said.

After consulting with another hospital, it was apparently determined that the woman needed to be transferred to the other hospital for a possible heart procedure. During her transfer, according to the claim, the woman's respiratory treatment was stopped and she went into cardiac arrest and died. Allegedly, it was later determined that her cause of death was hypoxia as a result of an improper connection to her respiratory equipment.

Although the vast majority of medical providers in Mississippi are well-trained and capable professionals, mistakes still happen. Families who have lost a loved one as a result of medical malpractice may benefit from discussions with a legal representative. A successful lawsuit could provide much-needed compensation to help families with end-of-life expenses as well as other financial losses that may have occurred due to this experience.
